JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE
The Mechanical Onboard Snr. Superintendent is overall responsible for all the onboard activities taking placefor the mechanical department.Supervises all related activities whether onboard, or other areas that relative work is ongoing and ensures thatworks are carried out safely, on time and on budget according to project contractual obligations.The role involves working closely with the Mechanical Manager, GM Production, Production Manager, ProjectManagers, and the Production teams or other internal departments as required to ensure that all assignedscopes are executed safely, on time, and within budget, in accordance with the contract and the InternationalMaritime Industries Management System (IMIMS).Ensures production line efficiency and proper housekeeping onboard and when required prepares budgets / costestimates for production / projects.Solution orientation and doing it right the first-time mindset is a must, with a proactive approach to solvingissues before they become problems.Advance the Mechanical department to become the forefront of the yard with a global footprint.Key Accountabilities
Adhere to reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies.Ensure that all mechanical onboard activities are meticulously planned, and that the plans andresponsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by all relevant mechanical personnel.Attend the daily departmental meeting / s to update the Mechanical Manager regarding the projectsprogress status and highlight any serious matters in terms of equipment & tools, consumables, andlack of resources preventing the onboard mechanical team from achieving the projects deadline.Receive and follow the instructions from the Mechanical Manager regarding priority of the projects andtheir critical paths by allocating the workshop workforce accordingly.Hold daily progress meeting / s with the mechanical superintendents, supervisors to ensure that theonboard man-power work on the right priorities, check the physical progress of the work, providetechnical inputs and advice.Develop / supervise and control all incoming / outgoing jobs for Mechanical onboard section.Identify the nature of repairs through consultation with stakeholders. Discuss ways and methods of carrying out jobs, attend class inspections and clear any arising pointsControl overtime working and ensure limits as determined by Management are not exceededDevelop comprehensive production plans, including detailed schedules and resource allocations.Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of Mechanical / Marine and Drilling equipment on vessels, and rigs.Lead and manage mechanical repair teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.Ensure, in conjunction with the Procurement Supply Chain Group, that all materials and equipment are procured and delivered / used in accordance with the production and project’s contract requirements.Ensure effective and consistent interaction with other disciplines, management and supervision as required.Monitor actual man-hours against budgeted man-hours and take appropriate steps to correct overruns and develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.Ensure that all installation, maintenance and commissioning activities for the mechanical and other related systems are carried out in accordance with the approved procedures, meeting required quality standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer’s recommendations.Liaise with the engineering department regarding the project’s mechanical activities. Liaise with other trades to ensure project schedule adherence.Strong involvement in daily / weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress.Accountable for delivery of all Inspection Test Records (ITR’s) under the relevant discipline by effectively delegating them to the team. This must be approached with a high focus on interfacing and coordination with all other discipline supervision to remove all blocks from achieving target dates.Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and / or change of scope.Visit regularly project works whether in workshops, onboard, in docks, or other open areas where related activities are taking place to check on progress and give technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping.Make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization, CAPEX, productivity norms, manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency.Prepare individual appraisals for all subordinate staff and workforce and recommend training requirements Acquisition of certification / authorization for specialized works (OEM or others) as per IMI strategy Manage and direct relevant subcontractors to ensure that all contract obligations are met.Perform other relevant tasks as requested by line management.Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or diploma along with proven extended experience in this field.At least 12 years’ experience for degree holders and 17 years’ experience for diploma holders in reputable large shipyards at relevant level, with proven, hands on and in-depth knowledge on onboard mechanical works for ship and rig repair.Seniority level
