- The Senior Superintendent, Mechanical Workshop is overall responsible for all the activities taking place in the mechanical workshop.
- Oversee the entire mechanical works carried out in the workshop including supervision of overhauls, refurbishment of equipment such as engines, generators, gearboxes, turbines, pumps, valves, winches, windlasses, cranes, deck machinery, and hydraulic systems components.
- Supervises all related activities in the workshop and ensures that related works are carried out safely, on time and on budget according to project contractual obligations. This role involves working closely with the Mechanical Manager, Onboard Mechanical Snr. Superintendent, GM Production, Production Manager, Project Managers, and the Production teams or other internal departments as required to ensure that all assigned scopes are executed safely, on time, and within budget, in accordance with the contract and the International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS) Ensures production line efficiency and proper housekeeping in the workshop and when required prepares budgets / cost estimates for production / projects.

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE

Adhere to, reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies.Ensure that all mechanical workshop activities are meticulously planned, and that the plans and responsibilities are clearly communicated and understood by all relevant mechanical personnel.Develop / supervise and control all incoming / outgoing jobs for Mechanical WorkshopEnsure proper operation of all equipment and machinery through close liaison with the Maintenance Section.Identify the nature of repairs through consultation with stakeholders. Discuss ways and methods of carrying out jobs, attend class inspections and clear any arising points.Define priorities and organize distribution of men accordingly.Control overtime working and ensure limits as determined by Management are not exceededDevelop comprehensive production plans, including detailed schedules and resource allocations.Provide sound and good knowledge on various types of Mechanical / Marine and Drilling equipment on vessels, and rigs.Lead and manage mechanical repair teams, including tradespeople, technicians, and subcontractors.Ensure, in conjunction with the Procurement Supply Chain Group, that all materials and equipment are procured and delivered in accordance with the production and project’s contract requirements.Ensure effective and consistent interaction with other disciplines, management and supervision as required.Monitor actual man-hours against budgeted man-hours and take appropriate steps to correct overruns and develop and manage project budgets, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.Ensure that all installation, maintenance and commissioning activities for the mechanical and other related systems are carried out in accordance with approved procedures meeting required quality standards, regulatory requirements, and manufacturer’s recommendations.Liaise with the engineering department regarding the project’s mechanical activities. Liaise with other trades to ensure project schedule adherence.Contribute actively to daily / weekly progress reporting and is responsible for ensuring that supervision gather accurate physical progress.Oversee the timely delivery of all Inspection Test Records (ITR’s) under the relevant discipline by effectively delegating them to the team. This must be approached with a high focus on interfacing and coordination with all other discipline supervision to remove all blocks from achieving target dates.Provide feedback for bid preparations, whether for feasibility and tendering and / or change of scope.Visit regularly project work whether in workshop, onboard, in docks, or other open areas where related activities are taking place to check on progress and give technical advice and guidance. Ensure all control measures are in place for safety, environmental aspects and housekeeping.Make proposals towards management regarding processes optimization CAPEX, productivity norms, manpower planning for the continual improvement of productivity and efficiency.Prepare individual appraisals for all subordinate staff and workforce and recommend training requirements Acquisition of certification / authorization for specialized works (OEM or others) as per IMI strategy.Manage and direct relevant subcontractors to ensure that all contract obligations are met.Ensure that a high standard of order and cleanliness is maintained throughout the workshop areas.Perform other relevant tasks as requested by my line managementRequirements
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.Mechanical / Marine related professional qualifications or relevant time served.Proven experience of working in a heavy machinery workshop of a Ship Repair, Rig Repair Establishment at equivalent level.Real and in-depth knowledge of mechanical, machining, hydraulic components servicing, rudder and propeller works and other mechanical related activities in a shipyard environment focused on ship / rig repairsAt least 12 years’ experience in reputable large shipyards, with proven, hands on and in-depth knowledge in mechanical works.Seniority level
