Smart City Technology Architect

Overview

Summary Introduction : We are looking for a Smart City Technology Architect to lead the design and implementation of the underlying technology infrastructure required for smart city systems. This includes orchestrating the integration of IoT, connectivity, edge / cloud platforms, cybersecurity, and digital infrastructure in alignment with smart city goals. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across multiple domains and will work closely with strategy, application, and solution teams to deliver scalable, secure, and future-ready urban technology solutions. Responsibilities

Develop the end-to-end technology architecture for smart city platforms and systems including IoT, connectivity, compute, storage, and security components. Design integration frameworks for various sensors, devices, platforms, and applications across city services. Ensure architectural compliance with national and international standards (e.g., ISO 30182, ITU Y.4200 series). Work with telecom providers and vendors to design network and connectivity solutions (e.g., 5G, LoRaWAN, NB-IoT) suited for urban environments. Support edge computing strategies and cloud-native architecture for real-time and scalable urban data processing. Oversee cybersecurity and resilience architecture including identity management, secure data exchange, and threat detection. Collaborate with urban planners, solution architects, and developers to ensure alignment between technical infrastructure and business use cases. Lead technology selection and vendor assessments for infrastructure components in smart city projects. Document technical architecture blueprints, infrastructure models, and integration patterns. Required Qualifications & Skills

Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in technology architecture, ICT, or infrastructure design. At least 5 years of experience with smart city infrastructure, IoT platforms, or connected urban systems. Proven experience in designing and implementing technology solutions in large-scale urban or mission-critical environments. Strong knowledge of IoT, cloud computing, edge computing, cybersecurity, and data center technologies. Proficiency in network architecture (LAN / WAN, 5G, LPWAN), IT / OT convergence, and interoperability frameworks. Familiarity with middleware, messaging protocols (MQTT, AMQP), and API gateways. Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration skills. Excellent documentation and technical communication abilities. Bilingual (English and Arabic) is highly desirable. Certification in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), cybersecurity (e.g., CISSP), or architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF). Experience with smart poles, command and control centers, and integrated urban mobility infrastructure. Familiarity with digital twin platforms, city data platforms, and ESG / sustainability-aligned digital infrastructure. Additional Information
