Overview Of The Role
The Store Manager will lead the team to achieve retail objectives, creating an environment that delivers an exceptional customer experience by serving and selling in store and through all digital channels.
What You Will Do
- People Development / HR
- Lead a selling culture within the team and maximise sales in store and through all digital channels
- Identify and anticipate opportunities to drive sales performance and availability through regular review and analysis of MI and embed this behaviour in the team
- Lead the business selling strategy and inspire your team to deliver store and regional events
- Build strong relationships, networking internally and externally, to drive sales performance, maximise footfall, share best practice and provide influencing business feedback
- Lead the store team to ensure right first-time implementation of all retail activity and deliver excellent visual standards of presentation
- Maximises stock accuracy & On-shelf Availability through the effective management of stock
- Drives accuracy & availability process to deliver business availability targets
- Manages an effective food fill and top up process through the delivery of cost improvement programs and productivity targets
- Probes daily diagnostic and takes action to deliver stock to the required standard every day
- Manages on-shelf availability and checks store stock reports for accuracy and sign off daily
- Ensures accurate and timely implementation of corporate layout, phase change and events
- Reviews and implements plans at departmental level reflecting floor plans
- Coaches advisors to deliver and maintain floor plans
- Provides feedback to visual merchandiser on issues with plans; ensures sign-off process
- Manages space and equipment accuracy within the store
- Delivers décor to policy and liaises with relevant teams for correct implementation
- Service
- Uses service measures to identify and implement actions for improvement; feeds back to team on key risk areas
- Samples and measures service in store using Tell M&S results and customer recommendations; uses feedback to improve service
- Recognises individuals who deliver excellent service via feedback and awards
- Coaches team to demonstrate and role model Service – Doing the right thing and four key service behaviours
- Manages the Delivery Of The Customer Service Experience
- Ensures a memorable shopping experience (MEMS) by engaging with customers
- Delivers great service and role models service behaviours
- Conducts Ready To Trade checks, customer walkthroughs and observations
- Ensures right people are in the right place and responds to customer needs daily
- Resolves customer complaints timely; reviews competition service propositions for benchmarking
- Maintains M&S standard of appearance and uniform

- Leads the delivery of Ready To Trade Standards and a clean environment
- Drives operational excellence and efficiency
- Analyzes risks and opportunities to maximize profitability and control costs
- Uses store resource allocation to meet customer and operational needs
- Leads business change and ensures readiness to trade and maintenance of corporate standards
- Maintains safe and legal working environment for colleagues and customers
- Ensures legal ticketing and decorations align with policy
- Ensures compliance training is completed timely
- Understands due diligence and internal audit processes and stays updated on policy changes
- Ensures equipment and decor comply with Health & Safety regulations
- Plans kit swaps / new equipment in line with safety practices
- People
- Manages a committed, engaged team; recognises contributions

- Identifies and develops talent; maintains a strong working partnership with BIG as per the Constitution
- Owns personal development and builds a talent pipeline to meet store and regional plans

- Ensures HR policies are applied fairly; supports attendance and conduct improvements
- Costs
- Drives profitability through cost control, shrinkage reduction and productivity targets
- Manages staffing costs, budgeting, holiday planning and absence targets
- Understands store profitability and impact of costs (cleaning, maintenance)
- Analyses monthly cost reports and manages a returns-to-work process
- Improves store efficiencies and productivity; ensures the right people in the right place at the right time
- Minimum Qualifications And Knowledge
- High school education; university degree preferred; expertise in Food and Hygiene
- Minimum Experience
- 4+ years in retail or F&B sales
- Job-Specific Skills
- Good verbal communication, F&B hygiene knowledge and certification
