Overall Job Purpose Provide technical leadership (specific plant / operations) to ensure continuous, effective and efficient plant / production operations through the control and operation of chemical processes, systems and / or machines, with strict adherence to safety and operational regulations, rules and procedures
Qualifications, Experience & Skills Qualification Formal Production / Process qualification (e.g. National Diploma, Tech, MTech)

Oversee or operate chemical processes or systems of machines, using panel boards, control boards, or semi-automatic equipment
Control or maintain auxiliary equipment, such as pumps, fans, compressors, condensers, feedwater heaters, filters, or chlorinators, to supply water, fuel, lubricants, air, or auxiliary power
Control power generating equipment, including boilers, turbines, generators, or reactors, using control boards or semi-automatic equipment
Advice on and move control settings to start, stop or make necessary adjustments on machinery and equipment units affecting speeds of chemical reactions, quality, or yields, etc.
Leading role in start and shut down and start-up of plant equipment following due processes and procedures
Oversee transportation and storage of flammable and other potentially dangerous products to ensure that safety guidelines are followed
Monitor recording instruments, flowmeters, panel lights, gauges, dials or other indicators and listen for warning signals to verify conformity of process conditions
Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should, safety, and efficient operation, and to pro-actively detect malfunction
Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas
Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows
Regulate or shut down equipment during emergency situations following protocol
Inspect / lead inspection of operating units, such as towers, soap-spray storage tanks, scrubbers, collectors, or driers to ensure that all are functioning and to maintain maximum efficiency
Contribute ensuring compliance to HSERQ requirements
Oversee use of energy production equipment
Oversee use of pumping systems or equipment
Perform (senior) standby duty
