Summary
Designs and conducts research projects with minimal supervision; writes papers and scientific reports; presents and discusses data in meetings and seminars; provides new scientific or managerial capabilities or expertise to the research unit; and supervises research technician(s), trainees and students.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1. Carries out advanced independent and / or directed research to achieve the objectives of the research project.
2. Develops new methods and technologies when necessary for project advancement.
3. Participates in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and / or presentations.
4. Searches for funding opportunities and writes grant applications.
5. Teaches research techniques to others; trains and oversees technicians, students and / or fellows.
6. Engages in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required in order to enhance professional skills and research independence needed for pursuit of a career.
7. Assists in overseeing the laboratory including maintaining the supplies, equipment and ordering of necessary materials.
8. Follows all laboratory safety rules and regulations.
9. Follows all hospital related policies and procedures.
10. Participates in self and others’ education, training and development, as applicable.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree or Doctor of Science (DSc) degree from an accredited institution in a scientific discipline relevant to the research field is required.
Experience Required
Three (3) years of directly related experience post-doctoral degree required.
