Overview
Manage the finance function end-to-end for a growing SME that delivers IT infrastructure projects (focus on IFRS 15, %-of-completion) and software products (focus on IAS 38 development capitalization). The role balances hands-on accounting leadership with business partnering—tight month-end closes, strong cash discipline, clean audits, and disciplined budgeting / forecasting—while building fit-for-purpose controls, policies, and scalable processes for growth.
Duties / Responsibilities
Lead timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closes; prepare management packs (P&L, BS, CF, dashboards) with analysis and commentary. Maintain a robust chart of accounts and ensure reconciliations (banks, AR / AP, accruals, prepaids, intercompany) are current and accurate. Coordinate annual financial statements under IFRS, working with external auditors.
Improve and streamline %-of-completion frameworks for IT infrastructure projects (input / output methods, cost-to-complete, WIP / contract assets & liabilities). Work with Delivery / PMO on Scope of Works, milestones, change orders, and evidence for revenue recognition. Monitor project margins, variances, contingencies, and EACs (estimates at completion); surface early warnings and recommend corrections.
Define capitalization policy for development costs (criteria, time capture, gates, documentation). Track intangible assets : capitalization, amortization schedules, and impairment triggers. Align with Product / Engineering on roadmaps, releases, and cost attribution.
Run the annual budget process; manage rolling forecasts (12–18 months). Build driver-based models for revenue (pipeline, conversion, unit economics), OPEX, CAPEX, and headcount. Partner with business leaders to monitor performance vs. plan; recommend corrective actions.
Own cash forecasting (13-week / ~ 1 Quarter and longer-term); optimize DSO / DPO / Inventory (if any) and the cash conversion cycle. Oversee collections, billing accuracy (including progress billing for projects and software licenses / subscriptions), and vendor terms. Manage cash flows and develop financing and borrowing plans and manage relationships with banks and financial institutions (e.g., letters of guarantee / credit). Establish practical policies for an SME : delegation of authority, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, travel expenses, and petty cash. Implement preventive / detective controls; enforce segregation of duties (right-sized for a small team). Drive continuous improvement and document processes.
Ensure compliance with ZATCA (VAT / e-invoicing), Zakat / Corporate Income Tax (as applicable), and WHT on cross-border payments. Coordinate filings and respond to queries / audits with external advisors.
Administer the ERP / accounting system (currently using Odoo) with project accounting modules. Automate and streamline repetitive tasks.
Support pricing, bids, and contract reviews (payment terms, penalties, performance guarantees). Evaluate project profitability, product ROI, and customer-level economics.
Coach a small team; manage external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors. Create a simple training and cross-coverage plan to reduce key-person risk.
