Canonical . Lead our effort to get Ubuntu fit for applications in automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics and other highly regulated environments. Ubuntu is the world's most widely used Linux in general; we aim to make it the world's best choice for mission-critical systems in these sectors. We are investing in processes and engineering, tools and analysis, practices and people to ensure open-source software meets the demands of regulation, compliance and certification. This is a hands-on leadership role : you will transform complex requirements into concrete outcomes, and embed engineering excellence values and practices across multiple projects and teams. You will lead and challenge engineering culture, working with teams across the organisation to bring these practices to life at every level of engineering. You will help define Canonical's ways of working, collaborate with engineering leadership to implement continuous improvement processes, and establish qualification requirements in support of engineering quality standards. You will define methods for measuring quality and use them to shape engineering culture. You will also establish strategic relationships with external groups, committees and partners. You will join the industrial standards team at Canonical and work closely with company-wide engineering leadership to define and deliver this vision. Location : This role may be held anywhere in European, Middle Eastern, African or Americas regions or time zones. Responsibilities
Lead the effort to align Ubuntu with the needs of regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, industrial robotics) and other highly regulated environments. Translate complex regulatory and certification demands into concrete engineering outcomes and practices. Collaborate with engineering leadership to describe and implement continuous improvement processes and qualification requirements for software quality standards. Define and apply metrics to measure quality and guide engineering culture and decisions. Establish strategic relationships with external working groups, committees and partners. Work with the industrial standards team to deliver the vision across Canonical. Qualifications
Strong experience in engineering and process management in an agile environment. Knowledge or certification of software quality standards such as ISO / IEC 25010 or ASPICE. Experience in developing and growing people and teams. Experience leading compliance and certification efforts, with understanding of stakeholder management. Experience with Linux. Additional skills Background as a software developer. Experience establishing product engineering development metrics and KPIs. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. What we offer
