TOC (Transportation Operation Center) is the central command and control center for ‘Transportation Execution’ across the Amazon Supply Chain network supporting multiple geographies like NA, India and EU. It ensures hassle free, timely pick‑up and delivery of freight from vendors to Amazon fulfillment centres (FCs) and from Amazon FCs to carrier hubs. In case of any exceptions, TOC steps in to resolve the issue and keeps all stakeholders informed on the proceedings. Along with tactical problem‑solving, TOC is also charged with understanding trends in network exceptions and then automating processes or proposing process changes to streamline operations, which involves network monitoring and significant analysis of network data. Overall, TOC plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth functioning of Amazon transportation and thereby has a direct impact on Amazon’s ability to serve its customers on time.
Purview of a Trans Ops Specialist
A Trans Ops Specialist at TOC facilitates the flow of information between different stakeholders (Trans Carriers / Hubs / Warehouses) and resolves any potential issues that impact customer experience and business continuity. The specialist works across two verticals – Inbound and Outbound operations. In Inbound Operations the specialist is responsible for Vendor / Carrier / FC relationships, ensuring that freight is picked‑up on time and delivered to FC as per the given appointment, addressing any issues during the pick‑up‑to‑delivery lifecycle. In Outbound Operations the specialist handles FC / Carrier / Carrier Hub relationships, ensuring that trucks leave the FC to deliver customer orders as promised and addressing any issues during the freight‑leave‑to‑customer life‑cycle.
A Trans Ops Specialist provides timely resolution to any issue by researching and querying internal tools and by taking real‑time decisions. The ideal candidate should understand requirements, analyse data, notice trends, drive customer experience without compromising on time, communicate clearly in written and oral form, and ideate and drive process improvements to conclusion.
