Responsible for safe and effective pharmaceutical service for inpatient, I.V. admixture, and outpatients, and all staff involved with direct patient care and patient needs with established policies and procedures including forecasting supplies and equipment, and adequate and safe storage of medications.
Responsible in exercising due care in the dispensation of pharmaceuticals; ensures that all standards set by the hospital, Saudi Arabian Government and CBAHI / JCIA are met.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
Ensures prompts and accurate delivery of medications to patients.
Ensures that Physician’s Orders and patient medication profiles are reviewed, processed and checked properly.
Ensures that drug information is provided to health care professional and patients to assist in providing rational drug therapy.
Ensures that orientation to new staff is carried out.
Ensures that prescriptions are appropriate and accurately filled with detailed instructions by interpreting each prescription before filing to ascertain if strength and dosage prescribed is within patient tolerance.
Ensures that patient profile is reviewed to check for Drug vs. Drug Interaction, Drug vs. Patient Allergies and Drug vs. Patient Diet restrictions and dosage suitable.
Ensures that daily preparations of medicines for inpatients are carried out based on the unit dose system.
Ensures that the doses for I.V. Admixtures, TPN and Compounding Cytotoxic drugs are properly calculated according to the written policy and procedures.
Ensures computerized charging, verification and modification of inpatient medication for specific patients.
Ensures that current and accurate drug information to health care professionals is provided.
Ensures that confidentiality and security of patient information is maintained as per hospital policy and professional pharmacy standards.
Ensures that monthly controlled drug requirements and stock level are well estimated; controls and initiates storehouse orders for all appropriate areas.
Ensures participation in the inpatient counseling and training of Pharmacy Students.
Assists in updating the Hospital Formulary.
Ensures an accurate and proper storage of any newly delivered medicines.
Ensures that the process of computerization is observed, including drug dispensing, inventory, drug interactions, allergies, refills and validity of prescriptions.
Ensures periodic spot-check for controlled and narcotic drugs as per MOH to guarantee inventory correctness.
Ensures that operating manuals for the Pharmacy unit are reviewed every two (2) years.
Participates in continuing education to keep abreast of new pharmaceuticals, equipment techniques and antidote information.
Maintains current listing of physicians and dentists’ signature specimens (badge number), abbreviations and clerical symbols recommending and implementing approved changes.
Ensures that infection control procedures are implemented and maintained.
Complies with the hospital dress code.
Qualifications
Proficient in the use and application of new medications and technology.
Problem solving ability and analytical thinking preferred.
Customer service skills; exhibits professionalism, effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Fluency in verbal and written English, Arabic and Non-Arabic speakers.
