Overview

Vanderlande is the global market leader in Airport, Parcel Solutions, and sorting systems for Warehouse Solutions. Working within the King Salman Airport Engineering team in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, you will contribute to sales and engineering projects on design safety of material handling systems and join a diverse range of projects across the Airports segment in the EMEA LATAM region as needed. Job Title : Design Safety Expert Your role involves guiding and supporting projects to increase the maturity of design safety compliance through design reviews, risk analysis, and site inspections of mechanical, electromechanical, and controls systems. You will provide professional expert skills and communicate technical recommendations to key stakeholders including Mechanical, Electrical and Controls Design Engineers, Project Managers, HSEQ teams, and Customers while maintaining a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement. Responsibilities

Support a safe working environment by championing, encouraging, and leading by example to deliver a safety-first culture. Utilize expert skills to guide multiple project teams and suppliers to deliver safe system design solutions, able to make and own risk-based decisions amidst ambiguity. Oversee project deliverables by identifying design safety uncertainties through risk analysis and proposing mitigations, as well as executing site inspections. Champion design safety across the equipment lifecycle—from tendering and sales through design, build, installation, commissioning, deployment, operation, decommissioning, and disposal. Support team growth and development; continuously improve personal and team technical and professional capabilities and share lessons learned. Ensure technical compliance and readiness by auditing system design from pre-bid through engineering and handover, providing a Declaration of Conformance to Saudi Arabian regulations. Identify gaps between Vanderlande products (CE-compliant) and applicable local Saudi Arabian regulations; collaborate with the project team to deliver a compliant system. Provide regular updates to management and communicate project status, performance, risks, and solutions. Be a trusted partner with Vanderlande’s customers, advising on machinery safety and regulatory compliance to meet or exceed expectations. Personal characteristics

Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience. BSc / MSc in Engineering field. Understanding of Saudi Arabian legislation (SASO, ISO, IEC). Understanding of machinery directive (2006 / 42 / EC) and safety standards such as EN 619; ISO 13849-1 / 2; ISO 13850; ISO 14122-1 to -4; IEC 60204-1. Understanding of OSHA, ANSI, UL, and NFPA regulations. Qualified and certified in machine safety CMSE (or equivalent). Understanding of occupational safety (US, European, local regulations). Evidence of working in the area of machine safety. Proven track record in material handling systems; experience with airport baggage handling systems is strongly preferred (training provided). Proven track record with customer interaction through presentations, workshops, etc. is strongly preferred. Seniority level
