Job Purpose
The Environmental Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the successful integration and implementation of environmental sustainability practices across all stages of the project. This role involves monitoring and managing environmental impact, ensuring compliance with sustainability regulations, and supporting the project’s sustainability certifications. The coordinator works closely with contractors, project teams, and other stakeholders to meet environmental performance targets, improve resource efficiency, and minimize the project’s ecological footprint.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental Sustainability Implementation
- Assist in the implementation of sustainability strategies and initiatives as outlined in the Sustainability Management Plan (CSMP).
- Work with project teams to ensure environmental sustainability practices are incorporated in every stage of the project, from design through to construction and operation.
Environmental Performance Monitoring
Track and report on key environmental sustainability indicators such as energy consumption, water usage, carbon emissions, waste diversion, and resource efficiency.Monitor ongoing project activities and their impact on the environment, providing recommendations for improvements.Collect, analyze, and maintain data to support sustainability performance reporting.Compliance and Certification Support
Ensure the project complies with local and international environmental standards and certifications (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, ISO 14001, WELL, etc.).Assist with preparing documentation for environmental audits and certifications, ensuring all required data and reports are submitted in a timely manner.Support the team in addressing any non-compliance issues and developing corrective actions to stay on track with sustainability goals.Waste and Resource Management
Develop and assist in the implementation of waste management strategies, focusing on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials.Track the use of materials throughout the project and ensure that sustainable procurement practices are followed.Assist in the optimization of resources, ensuring the efficient use of energy, water, and materials on-site.Environmental Risk Management
Identify environmental risks and challenges and work with the team to mitigate negative impacts.Assist in conducting environmental assessments and developing plans to minimize the project’s environmental footprint.Ensure proper environmental risk management procedures are in place and followed by all stakeholders.Collaboration with Stakeholders
Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure that sustainability goals are communicated and achieved.Provide guidance and support to project teams on sustainable construction practices and environmental requirements.Facilitate the sharing of best practices and lessons learned across the team to continuously improve environmental performance.Training and Awareness
Support the training of staff and contractors on environmental sustainability practices and regulations.Raise awareness of the importance of sustainability across the project team, helping to create a culture of environmental responsibility.Reporting and Documentation
Prepare and submit environmental sustainability reports and status updates to the Sustainability Manager.Document sustainability efforts, including waste management, energy use, water conservation, and carbon emissions data, to support compliance and reporting requirements.Assist in preparing sustainability-related materials for presentations, meetings, and stakeholder communications.Required Qualifications
Academic Credentials
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, or a related field.Additional certifications in sustainability or environmental management (e.g., LEED Green Associate, ISO 14001) are advantageous.Professional Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in environmental sustainability or related roles, preferably in construction, infrastructure, or large-scale projects.Experience in monitoring and reporting on sustainability performance metrics.Familiarity with environmental regulations, green building certifications, and sustainability standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM, ISO 14001).Skills
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and report on environmental performance.Knowledge of environmental management systems and sustainable construction practices.Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.Required Certifications and Accreditations
