Job Purpose
Structural Engineer (Bridges & Retaining Structures) will play a key role in the development, review, and unification of engineering standards, specifications, and design codes related to bridges, retaining structures, and associated civil infrastructure. The incumbent will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, public agencies, and consulting experts to ensure that all standards align with international best practices while addressing local environmental, material, and operational conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, evaluate, and harmonize existing national and regional standards related to bridge and retaining structure design, materials, and construction practices.
- Draft, revise, and finalize technical codes and guidelines in line with AASHTO, Eurocode, and other local and international benchmarks.
- Coordinate with internal departments, government ministries, and technical committees to ensure unified and consistent adoption of standards.
- Recommend updates or revisions to reflect technological advancements, sustainability principles, and local requirements.
- Review design criteria, technical reports, and specifications submitted by consultants or contractors for compliance with approved standards.
- Provide expert advice on structural engineering issues, design safety, load calculations, and material specifications.
- Conduct technical evaluations of new construction methodologies, materials, and bridge technologies suitable for local implementation.
- Conduct comparative analyses of international codes and adapt them to local conditions (soil, climate, materials, traffic loads).
- Participate in technical committees, research forums, and coordination meetings related to infrastructure standardization.
- Maintain an updated database of best practices, case studies, and lessons learned from infrastructure projects.
- Support workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs on newly developed codes or revised technical standards.
- Assist in preparing official publications, technical manuals, and guideline documents.
- Ensure that all national structural design codes comply with safety, durability, and sustainability principles.
- Support audits or reviews to verify adherence to standardized technical requirements in public projects.
- Contribute to the development of digital platforms or knowledge repositories for engineering standards.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of Ten (10) years professional experience in bridge and retaining structure design and review.Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.Good communication skills, both in presentation and documentation.Excellent reporting, documentation, and coordination skills.Good command over English.Technical Competencies
Advanced understanding of bridge and retaining wall design principles, geotechnical-structural interaction, and load modeling.Strong command of relevant standards (SBC, IBC, AASHTO, BS, EN, ASTM).Knowledge of material specifications, seismic design, and durability standards.Experience with BIM and digital design review tools is desirable.What We Offer
