Job Purpose
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for managing and analyzing all aspects of costing within the manufacturing and sales of power industrial operations. The role ensures accurate product costing, profitability analysis, and cost control to support strategic decision-making, pricing, and operational efficiency.
Main Responsibilities
Product & Manufacturing Costing
- Review standard costing models for all power industrial operations.
- Review Bills of Materials (BOMs) and monitor actual vs. standard costs.
- Calculate and monitor labour and overhead absorption rates.
- Conduct cost variance analysis (materials, labour, overhead) and highlight inefficiencies.
Inventory & Procurement Cost Control
Monitor raw material, work-in-progress, and finished goods valuations.Track landed costs including import duties, freight, and logistics.Support procurement in cost benchmarking and cost-saving initiatives.Identify and report slow-moving or obsolete stock.Sales & Margin Analysis
Prepare profitability analysis by generator type, customer, or region.Assess the impact of dealer discounts, freight, and warranty costs on margins.Provide cost insights for tender submissions and customer quotations.Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in annual budgeting and rolling cost forecasts.Perform scenario analysis on raw material prices, exchange rate fluctuations, and volume changes.Conduct break-even and contribution margin analysis for different product lines.Compliance & Reporting
Ensure compliance with cost accounting policies and financial controls.Support internal audits related to inventory and cost accounting.Prepare monthly management reports on cost performance and trends.Qualifications & Relevant Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related disciplineProfessional qualification (CIMA, CMA, ACCA, or equivalent) preferredMinimum 3–5 years’ experience in cost accounting, ideally within a manufacturing or heavy engineering environmentFamiliarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).Strong MS Excel and financial modelling skills.Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Solid understanding of costing methodologies (Job Costing, Standard Costing, Activity-Based Costing).Analytical with high attention to detail.Strong communication skills, able to present insights to technical and non-financial colleagues.Knowledge of manufacturing operations and inventory management processes.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Success in this job will be measured on the following criteria :Accuracy of product costing vs. actual (Timeliness and quality of monthly cost reportsReduction in material / labour variances.Contribution to gross margin improvement through actionable cost insights.Cost efficiency improvements in procurement and inventory management.#J-18808-Ljbffr
