The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems and automation solutions used in manufacturing and industrial processes. The Controls Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, as well as production and maintenance teams, to support system integration, troubleshoot issues, and drive process improvements.
Role and Responsibilities
- Develop electrical and controls systems for the purpose of machine control, human interface, IoT, or Cloud-based device monitoring / troubleshooting.
- Design solutions based on engineering principles while utilizing scoped performance criteria from the customer.
- Provide technical support to field-based customers (Requires after-hours availability from time to time).
- Resolve operational problems related to products and minimize delays or rework.
- Ownership of successes and failures whether project lead or as part of a team.
- Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all work completed.
- Support sales team in pre-sales technical concept vetting and project scoping.
- Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design including electrical requirements, motor controls, and hazardous location approval criteria.
- Create and finalize designs and drawings to meet product requirements.
- Create accurate Bill of Materials.
- Define equipment and parts from external suppliers.
- Conduct cost and time estimation.
Project Involvement
Participate in assigned workflow and support internal and external resources to ensure timely delivery of projects, expected quality, and allotted budget.Software design of customized solutions including manufacturing automation and safety systems.Support the manufacture, build and validation of systems which may include hydraulics, DC motor control, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons and instrumentation integration.Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings.Ability to architect programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile.Project Completion
Maintain accurate records and files according to E3 quality standards.Commission customized products and systems onsite and at customer facilities.Modifies systems upon customer3s approval and documents the amendments accordingly.Provide high quality pre-sales, design-in and post-sales technical support to customer.Perform quoting or other duties of a similar nature to provide quality of service.Additional Job Requirements
A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (or similar related degree).3-5 years industry experience preferred but not required.Proficient with MS Office, Custom Ladder Logic, AutoCAD Electrical or other software as identified.Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of sensor, power, safety, and communications systems.Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.Critical thinking with systematic problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments.Demonstrates professional work characteristics, high initiative, dependability, results-driven personality.Ability to balance multiple projects.Travel as required to support product(s).Properly maintain and use confidential information.Desired Skills
