JOB PURPOSE : To perform all carpentry-related tasks required within the Cargo Examination (CE) section, including constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden materials, pallets, packing frames, and crates used in cargo handling and examination. The Carpenter ensures that all wooden structures are properly prepared for inspection, re-packing, and safe cargo handling, in compliance with operational and safety standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Construct, repair, and maintain wooden pallets, boxes, crates, skids, and frames used for cargo packing or examination support.
Assist in building temporary inspection platforms, stands, or supports as needed for cargo examination activities.
Measure, cut, assemble, and finish wood or plywood materials according to required dimensions and specifications.
Re-pack cargo items into wooden cases or structures after inspection, ensuring stability, safety, and compliance with handling requirements.
Handle tools, machines, and carpentry equipment (saws, drills, hammers, nail guns, etc.) safely and efficiently.
Assist in dismantling and reassembling wooden packing during customs or security inspection processes.
Conduct routine inspection and maintenance of carpentry tools, materials, and work areas to ensure they are in safe and operational condition.
Monitor stock levels of carpentry materials (wood, nails, hinges, bolts, etc.) and report replenishment needs to the Shift Supervisor.
Keep all carpentry work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Safety and Compliance :
Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to carpentry operations, tool usage, and cargo handling areas.
Wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times while on duty.
Ensure all constructed materials meet the CE section’s safety and operational standards.
Report any unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or near-miss incidents to the Shift Supervisor.
Adhere to the company’s quality, environmental, and health & safety regulations.
Support the CE examination process by providing carpentry assistance for securing or re-packing inspected cargo.
Work closely with laborers and forklift operators to ensure the safe movement of large or heavy wooden structures.
Assist with other maintenance or fabrication duties within the CE section as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.
Respond promptly to system-generated or supervisor-issued work orders.
Ensure timely completion of assigned carpentry jobs to support ongoing cargo operations.
Communicate regularly with the Shift Supervisor regarding job priorities, material needs, and work progress.
Record work orders, completed tasks, and material consumption accurately.
Coordinate with other technical and operational teams to ensure smooth workflow.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :
High school diploma or technical certificate in carpentry or related trade.
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a carpenter, preferably in a logistics, warehouse, or cargo environment.
Proficiency in using carpentry tools, machinery, and measuring instruments.
Basic understanding of cargo packing standards and wooden crate construction.
Knowledge of safety regulations and work procedures within industrial or cargo zones.
Ability to interpret technical drawings or dimensional requirements when building cargo frames or pallets.
Good communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor in a warehouse or cargo area environment.
