Environmental Science Sr. Specialist
Job Summary : We are seeking a highly motivated Environmental Science Sr. Specialist to join our team and play a key role in bridging research and product development. This position is an integral part of the Research and Development (R&D) team, reporting directly to the R&D Manager. The role is responsible for developing and executing analytical chemistry and basic microbiological protocols to support process optimization, product development, quality control, and experimental.
The Environmental Science Sr. Specialist plays a key role in organizing, coordinating, and managing laboratory and pilot‑scale research projects, ensuring timely delivery of results, alignment with R&D goals, and effective communication with internal stakeholders.
In addition, the Sr. Specialist performs routine and project‑specific analyses of composting feedstocks, soils, substrates, and water samples, manages core laboratory operations, and ensures data integrity through rigorous data management practices. The role also includes overseeing laboratory procurement, inventory control, instrument calibration, chemical waste management, and ensuring compliance with KAUST and company HSE standards.
Job Responsibilities :
- Lead cross‑functional activities to plan, implement, and oversee the scale‑up of a chemical process from lab to pilot scale, including pilot setup, data analysis, troubleshooting, life cycle assessment, cost estimation, and independently authoring robust technical reports.
- Perform environmental data collection and integration of process parameters, laboratory results, and environmental measurements to inform process optimization and life cycle assessment (LCA). Possess working knowledge of R for data analysis and visualization, with strong preference for proficiency in Python and application of machine learning tools.
- Perform analytical chemistry workflows for sample analysis, quality management, and substrate characterization, ensuring proper data collection, storage, and entry in accordance with best laboratory and data management practices. Deliver results on time and in clear, informative summary reports for internal stakeholders.
- Independently develop, validate, and implement new chemical analysis protocols for solid and liquid samples and generate accurate written documents to support laboratory operations, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that ensure reproducible scientific practices.
- Manage laboratory operations, including instrument booking, procurement of supplies, inventory control to ensure adequate chemical stock levels, routine safety checks, routine lab equipment maintenance, coordination of chemical waste disposal, and oversight of lab housekeeping to maintain a clean and compliant working environment with KAUST and company HSE standards.
Requirements and Qualifications :
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.Experience 4–6 years in analytical or environmental chemistry laboratories.Chemical characterization of environmental matrices (solid, liquid, gas).Proficiency in analytical instrumentation and method development for solid and liquid samples (GC, HPLC, TOC analyzers, CHNSO, ICP‑OES, and spectrophotometric nutrient analysis).Background in chemical process development, scale‑up, and analytical chemistry – essential.Understanding of cost estimation, data management, safety, and HSE compliance.#J-18808-Ljbffr
