Overview
The Freight Accountant is responsible for handling all financial transactions related to freight operations, including billing, cost allocation, revenue recognition, and reconciliation. The role ensures accurate financial recording of freight income and expenses across air, sea, and land shipments, supporting the company’s profitability and compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities
- Record and monitor all freight-related revenues and costs (air, sea, land, customs clearance, handling, etc.).
- Prepare freight invoices for clients based on shipment details and agreed quotations.
- Verify supplier and agent invoices related to freight, ensuring accuracy before posting.
- Allocate costs to corresponding jobs or shipments in coordination with the operations team.
- Reconcile freight job files and ensure all costs and revenues are recorded before job closure.
- Monitor and control freight margins to ensure profitability per shipment.
- Handle inter-company transactions for overseas agents and partners.
- Prepare monthly freight reports, including revenue analysis and outstanding balances.
- Support the month-end and year-end closing by reconciling freight accounts and preparing journal entries.
- Assist auditors by providing all freight-related financial documentation.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of all freight invoices and supporting records.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting within the freight forwarding or logistics industry.Strong understanding of freight operations, cost control, and revenue recognition principles.Knowledge of INCOTERMS, freight documentation, and billing structure.Experience with ERP or accounting software (e.g., SAP, Odoo, CargoWise, or similar).Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting.English proficiency (Arabic is an advantage).#J-18808-Ljbffr
