Job description

Job Purpose

To ensure a safe and healthy working environment by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing occupational health and safety standards, policies, and procedures. The Safety Officer is responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting inspections, providing safety training, and ensuring compliance with legal and organizational safety requirements to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses.

Key Accountabilities

• Ensure the implementation of all occupational health and safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and standards across the workplace.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify unsafe conditions, unsafe acts practices, or hazards, and ensure timely corrective actions are taken.
• Monitor compliance with local regulatory requirements, company safety policies, and international safety standards.
• Deliver safety inductions, awareness sessions, and training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; prepare detailed reports with root cause analysis and recommend preventive measures.
• Ensure proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Coordinate emergency response drills, fire evacuation exercises, and ensure readiness of first‑aid and firefighting equipment.
• Report safety performance (fire pumps reading, fire alarm system), issues, and progress to management and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote a strong safety culture by encouraging safe behaviours and discouraging unsafe practices at all levels of the organisation.
