Job Summary The Welding Inspector (Shutdown) is responsible for monitoring and inspecting all welding activities during shutdown and turnaround operations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. The role involves close supervision of welding procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection of weld joints using visual and non-destructive testing methods. The inspector plays a critical role in maintaining quality control, identifying welding defects, and ensuring timely documentation and reporting to support safe and efficient shutdown execution. Roles and Responsibilities Inspect welding activities on static and piping systems to ensure adherence to WPS, drawings, and project specifications

Verify welder qualifications, consumables, and equipment calibration before start of welding operations

Monitor welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW during fabrication, repair, and erection stages

Conduct visual inspection of welds and coordinate with NDT teams for testing including RT, UT, MPI, and DPI

Identify and document welding defects or non-conformities and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented

Review and approve welding documents such as WPS, PQR, and welder performance qualifications

Ensure pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections are conducted as per inspection test plans

Maintain proper records of weld maps, inspection reports, and NDT results for QA / QC documentation

Liaise with contractors, engineers, and third-party inspectors to resolve technical issues and ensure compliance

Enforce strict adherence to safety practices and quality standards throughout welding activities

Support mechanical completion and final acceptance through punch list verification and close-out

Mandatory Requirements Diploma or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline

Minimum 5–8 years of experience in welding inspection in shutdowns within oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industry

CSWIP 3.1, AWS-CWI, or equivalent international welding inspection certification is mandatory

In-depth knowledge of welding codes and standards such as ASME, API, and AWS

Experience in coordinating and witnessing NDT activities and interpreting results

Strong understanding of welding procedures, materials, and joint configurations

Ability to read and interpret isometric drawings, welding symbols, and technical documents

Proficient in documentation, reporting, and QA / QC procedures

Strong commitment to safety and quality in high-pressure shutdown environments

Willingness to work extended hours, rotating shifts, and in challenging site conditions during turnarounds
