Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Datamart / Semantic Layer Designer & Modeler to design business-oriented data models and semantic layers on top of Teradata EDW. This is a business-focused role requiring strong dimensional modeling expertise, business acumen, deep understanding of KPIs, telecommunications domain knowledge, and product thinking to deliver analytics solutions that drive business value.
Experience Required : Minimum 5+ years in datamart design, dimensional modeling, and semantic layer development
Core Responsibilities
Dimensional Modeling & Datamart Design
- Design and develop star schema and snowflake schema dimensional models on Teradata EDW
- Create subject-area datamarts (Customer, Revenue, Network, Product, Finance) optimized for business analytics
- Design fact tables (transaction, snapshot, accumulating) with appropriate grain and measures
- Develop dimension tables, conformed dimensions, bridge tables, and hierarchies
- Implement slowly changing dimensions (SCD Types 1, 2, 3) and aggregate tables for performance
- Strong expertise in dimensional modeling best practices and design patterns
Semantic Layer Development
Design and implement semantic layers on Teradata using TIBCO and TrinoCreate business-friendly abstractions that hide technical complexity from end usersDefine business entities, relationships, metrics, KPIs, and calculated measures in semantic layerImplement business logic, calculations, and data access policiesDevelop views, materialized views, and virtual tables for semantic consumptionBusiness Requirements & KPI Definition
Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand analytics, reporting, and decision-making needsDefine and document business KPIs, metrics, and performance indicators with business contextTranslate business requirements into dimensional models and semantic layer specificationsApply product thinking to design analytics solutions that deliver measurable business outcomesCreate business glossary and maintain business metadata aligned with business terminologyTechnical Implementation & Optimization
Work with Teradata (Must Have) for datamart and semantic layer implementationDevelop semantic models using TIBCO Data Virtualization and Trino for distributed queriesOptimize query performance through indexing (PI, SI), partitioning, aggregations, and cachingImplement row-level security and data governance policies in semantic layerCollaborate with EDW designers, ETL teams, BI developers, and business usersDimensional Modeling (Required - Strong)
Strong expertise in star schema and snowflake schema design and modelingAdvanced dimensional modeling techniques (Kimball methodology)Fact table design (additive, semi-additive, non-additive measures) and grain definitionDimension design : conformed dimensions, role-playing dimensions, junk dimensions, slowly changing dimensionsExperience designing datamarts for multiple business domainsDatabase & Tools (Required)
Teradata (Must Have) : Advanced SQL, performance tuning, indexing strategies, architecture understandingTIBCO : Experience with TIBCO Data Virtualization or TIBCO suite for semantic layerTrino (PrestoSQL) : Hands-on experience for distributed SQL and semantic layer implementationOracle SQL and database knowledgeData modeling tools : Erwin, PowerDesignerBusiness & Domain Knowledge (Required)
