Overview

Consultant is responsible for providing care for his / her patients (inpatient and outpatient) maintaining a high-level of professional performance in accordance with professional medical ethics and applicable standards and regulations.

Responsibilities include adherence to :

  • Professional medical ethics and CBAHI / JCIA standards.
  • Hospital medical by-laws.
  • Laws of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.

Providing effective leadership of the department and maintaining an appropriate quality plan using measurable performance improvement standards in the field of plastic surgery.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding for every patient served at NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
  • Provide patient care within the parameters of professional competence as reflected in the scope of clinical privileges for both in-patients and out-patients.
  • Practice within the framework of clinically relevant and scientifically valid standards, guidelines and criteria.
  • Conduct regular ward rounds (independently or as part of a team) to formulate a multidisciplinary treatment plan including pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within the range of the specialty.
  • Assess and refer appropriate patients to other medical facilities and accept referrals from within the specialty.
  • Participate in the department on-call rota for patient care and admission.
  • Respond to emergencies to offer advice and actively participate in problem-solving related to the specialty.
  • Consult with the anesthesiologist on anesthesia techniques to be used.
  • Observe and uphold the patient’s rights to security, confidentiality and privacy.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records for all patients.
  • Provide leadership for organizational performance and supervise assigned junior staff.
  • Lead performance-improvement efforts and participate in the Departmental Quality Plan through measurement, assessment and improvement of clinical and non-clinical processes.
  • Actively participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) through hospital activities (morning reports, grand rounds, clinical tutorials and seminars, journal clubs, radiology or clinico-pathological conferences) and National / International meetings, conferences and symposiums.
  • Participate in training programs related to the field and organization for junior medical staff and for in-service training of nursing staff and technicians.
  • Continuously update knowledge and skills in the medical field.
  • Participate in committee meetings (e.g., Quality Improvement, Infection Control).
  • Abide by Department Policies and Procedures, hospital by-laws, Rules and Regulations.
  • Educate patients and families as per patient / family education policy, including documentation in the patient medical record.
  • Involve patients / families in the plan of care and respect their goals and choices.
  • Provide health promotion and health teaching appropriate to the patient’s developmental level, needs, readiness and language / cultural context.
  • Allocate time to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient education with proper documentation.
  • Perform other applicable tasks within the scope of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION : Required :

  • Saudi Board, or American Board, or Canadian Fellowship, or FRCS, or Equivalent
  • Higher qualifications in his specialty, if any.
  • EXPERIENCE : Required :

  • Up to five (5) years after post qualification.
  • Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of his specialty.
  • Registration in Saudi Medical Council and / or current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.
  • Additional experience in a sub-specialty
  • Academic affiliation.
  • Demonstrates leadership and administrative skills.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Medical by-laws.
