Senior Process Control Engineer

Overview This job is in the department of Technical Support Services (TSD). TSD provides day-to-day “facility” engineering support for plant operation and high-level technical support to chronic facility failure issues related to Mechanical, Instrument, DCS & SIS. TSD is custodian of PRC Engineering standards, documents, and recommendation tracking.

The Sr. Process Control Engineer position is to lead and conduct engineering studies / troubleshooting to improve refinery and petrochemical operations and provide specialized technical support / consulting in process control, automation and optimization, in accordance with procedures and in compliance with engineering practices, standards and qualities.

Responsibilities

TECHNICAL SUPPORT : Lead or conduct engineering designs, work processes and troubleshooting activities for engineering problems to ensure work is completed as required with good tracking, following engineering practices, standards and qualities.

ENGINEERING STUDIES : Lead or conduct engineering studies and analysis to support development, formulate engineering basis / justifications, objectives, expected monetary benefits, and develop / implement prioritized solutions to sustain benefits.

SUPPORT FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT : Lead or provide technical support and consultancy services for engineering projects, including scope definition, interrelationship, physical solution definition, cost estimation, and supervise project execution to ensure project is implemented as per plan.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT : Lead or conduct process improvement via process control, automation and optimization to improve existing facilities.

REPORTING : Prepare, review and consolidate root cause analysis or investigation reports or engineering studies to support Management decision-making and plant troubleshooting.

COACHING : Provide engineering training and coaching to engineers and supervise their work to ensure proper transfer of knowledge and skills as per standards.

OTHERS : As assigned and directed.

Education & Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical / Electrical / Instrumentation / Automation / Control Engineering from reputable universities.

Experience in process control, automation and optimization in refinery / petrochemical industry.

Strong knowledge and experience in process control, automation and optimization covering refineries / petrochemical processes on PCS (e.g., Yokogawa DCS, SIS Triconex, PLC), DCS regulatory and complex control systems, and APC / RT0 applications (Honeywell and Aspen).

High analytical skills to develop / improve control strategy, procedures, programs and engineering practices aligned with plant economics and business requirements.

Ability to lead and provide technical support / consultancy for multi-disciplinary engineering sections and cross-functional activities related to process control.

Demonstrated specialty / expertise with records of results.

Certifications such as Professional / Chartered Engineer are preferable but not required.

Strong leadership and engineering justification skills.

Analytical skills with business strategic planning from basic concepts to implementing solutions and sustaining benefits.

Results-oriented with clear objectives / goals.

Extensive process control troubleshooting / commissioning / implementation experience in various refinery and petrochemical processes.

Good communication skills including technical report writing / presentation.

Ability to develop knowledge and skills of process control engineers via training and coaching.
