ASSOCIATE CONSULTANT, VASCULAR SURGEON

Summary Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of medical diseases and conditions, as well as the provision of medical care in the field of Vascular Surgery under the supervision of the consultant, in accordance with current medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and the hospital’s policies and procedures. He should actively involve in research, attend clinic and provide a comprehensive pre-operative assessment and post operative care to vascular patients.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Clinical Responsibilities

Provides patient care management (diagnosis, treatment and prevention) to patient with vascular diseases and related disorder, under the consultant supervision, in accordance with standards of medical care lay down by KFSH&RRC.

Shares on-call schedule as per requirements and as assigned per the head section. Provides on-call coverage when his colleges are on vacation. During the on-call time, supervises the residents and approves all admission after discussing with the consultant.

Provides all the possible help and assistance in the OR to the consultant.

Assumes responsibility for patients under his / her care. Liaises with various support service departments and medical specializations to provide appropriate and timely medical care, in accordance with the standards laid down by KFSH&RRC.

Complies with all hospital standards and policies pertaining to acceptance, eligibility, admission processes, consultation, daily patient care, operating room, outpatient practices, and patient discharge.

Implements early patient discharge. Prepares discharge summaries and operative notes on time. Accurately, records the morbidity and mortality events. Prepares and presents in Journal Club on regular basis.

Conducts daily ward rounds as per policy and reassesses inpatients under care. Documents findings in medical records. Ensures appropriate patient preparation for procedures / surgery and get well informed signed consent for the procedure.

Initiates investigations and ensures findings are followed up and recorded. Modifies treatment accordingly after discussing that with the consultant.

Attends vascular surgery clinics, day surgical units, day medical units and special procedures treatment areas with the consultant.

Performs any other clinical responsibilities, as assigned.

Academic Responsibilities

Supervises and teaches junior staff on patient management, especially in the field of Vascular Surgery.

Guides and actively participates in the training and teaching of Residents, Fellows, and junior staff.

Keeps up with all the latest techniques and developments, especially in the field of vascular Surgery.

Actively participates in the educational activities and training programs of the department and the division.

Participates in national and international medical conferences at least once a year.

Research Responsibilities

Participates in clinical, basic and translational research projects and publishes papers in accordance with Research Advisory Council Policy in order to advance knowledge, improve the quality of post graduate education and contribute to the national and international recognition of KFSH&RRC.

Administrative Responsibilities

Undertakes the administrative duties assigned by Head of Section or Chairman of the department.

Participates in all mandatory departmental activities and serves on departmental and hospital committees, as required.

Assists the department in the development and implementation of techniques and practices that help maximize the utilization of all resources within the department and across the hospital.

Abides by the current hospital and medical staff bylaws, all relevant rules, regulations and policies and keeps updated of any changes that might occur.

Participates in self-and others’ education, training and development as applicable.

Follows all hospital-related policies and procedures.

Education Graduation from an accredited medical school acceptable to KFSH&RRC (Gen.Org).

Experience Required Five (5) years of training in specialty and subspecialty plus post-training experience required.

Other Requirements (Certificates) Refer to the approved Credentialing guidelines.
