Senior Database Administrator

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, optimize, and support critical enterprise databases in a high-availability production environment. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring database performance, reliability, and security while collaborating with development, infrastructure, and business teams. You will also mentor junior DBAs, lead root cause analysis, and contribute to the design of scalable and resilient database solutions. Key Responsibilities

Serve as a senior point of contact for all database-related issues, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, and optimization. Ensure high availability, reliability, and recoverability of production databases across multiple platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.). Design, implement, and monitor backup and disaster recovery strategies, ensuring compliance with RPO / RTO objectives. Manage and resolve database incidents (P1 / P2) to minimize business disruption. Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and query optimization for mission‑critical applications. Partner with development and infrastructure teams to design efficient database schemas, indexes, and stored procedures. Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring issues and implement long‑term fixes. Oversee database security (access control, encryption, auditing) in line with compliance and regulatory requirements. Manage database upgrades, patching, migrations, and replication in production environments. Maintain and enhance DBA runbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles. Participate in release and deployment activities to ensure production readiness of database changes. Provide regular reporting on database performance, availability, and risks to IT management. Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in large‑scale, mission‑critical environments. Strong expertise in RDBMS platforms (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.). Hands‑on experience in performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization. Proficiency in backup / recovery tools, replication, clustering, and high‑availability technologies. Solid knowledge of Linux / Unix environments and scripting (Shell, Python, PowerShell, etc.). In‑depth understanding of ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management. Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills. Proven experience handling critical incidents under pressure. Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis). Certification in database technologies (Oracle OCP, Microsoft MCSE, PostgreSQL, AWS / Azure DB certifications). ITIL certification is a strong plus.
