Job Summary
The Driller is responsible for operating and supervising drilling operations on an oil and gas rig. This role involves ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with drilling programs while leading the drill crew. The Driller collaborates with engineers, rig managers, and safety officers to execute drilling tasks effectively and mitigate risks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drilling Operations Management
- Operate and control the drilling equipment, draw works, and rig floor machinery.
- Execute drilling programs according to engineering and geological specifications.
- Monitor drilling parameters, mud weight, and torque to maintain optimal drilling conditions.
- Supervise pipe tripping, casing, and cementing operations.
2. Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to HSE (Health, Safety & Environmental) regulations.Conduct pre-job safety meetings and toolbox talks with the drilling crew.Monitor well control equipment, including BOP (Blowout Preventer) systems, for proper functioning.Implement well control procedures in case of unexpected pressure changes or well kicks.Maintain overall safety culture on the rig.3. Crew Leadership & Supervision
Lead and mentor the drilling crew, floorhands, and derrickmen.Assign tasks and ensure proper execution of duties by the crew.Train junior staff on drilling techniques, safety protocols, and equipment handling.4. Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Perform routine maintenance and inspections of drilling equipment.Troubleshoot mechanical and operational issues to minimize downtime.Ensure proper handling and maintenance of drill pipes, collars, and bits.5. Reporting & Documentation
Maintain daily drilling reports and rig activity logs.Report any deviations, safety incidents, or equipment failures to the Rig Manager.Ensure accurate documentation of drilling parameters, mud logs, and depth records.Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; a technical diploma in drilling or petroleum engineering is a plus.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in oil and gas drilling operations, including at least 2 years as a Driller.Strong experience with onshore / offshore drilling rigs (Jack-up, Land Rigs, Semi-submersible, or Drillship).Knowledge of rotary, directional, and horizontal drilling techniques.Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of well control techniques and blowout prevention.Ability to interpret and execute drilling programs and geological data.Proficiency in using drilling software and rig instrumentation.Excellent leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.Strong understanding of mud systems, hydraulics, and pressure control.#J-18808-Ljbffr
