Overview
The MSL supervisor is a key leadership role within the Medical Affairs department, responsible for leading, managing, and developing a high-performing team of field-based MSLs. They combine scientific expertise with inspirational leadership to ensure the MSL team effectively communicates complex scientific information to the medical community, gathers crucial insights, and operates as the scientific face of the company. The MSL Manager is accountable for the development and execution of the MSL team's strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the overall medical and brand strategies for the portfolio in relevant therapeutic areas. This role is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Key Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and mentor the MSL team through regular field visits, 1-on-1 meetings, and performance reviews to enhance scientific knowledge, training capabilities, communication skills, and core competencies. Establish clear, measurable objectives and KPIs for the MSL team. Foster a collaborative, compliant, and motivational team environment that encourages scientific curiosity and professional growth. Oversee the continuous training and development program for the MSL team to ensure they remain experts in the therapeutic area and company products. Oversee the team’s strategy for identifying, mapping, and engaging with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), investigators, and other key healthcare stakeholders. Personally develop and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with a select group of national-level KOLs. Guide the MSL team in facilitating scientifically meaningful exchanges, ensuring all communication is accurate, fair-balanced, and non-promotional. Lead the planning and execution of Medical Affairs activities such as advisory boards, scientific symposia, and educational meetings. Establish a robust process for the MSL team to gather, document, and communicate actionable scientific and clinical insights from the field. Synthesize insights from the team to inform and help management shape medical, clinical development, and commercial strategies. Ensure seamless and compliant collaboration between the MSL team and internal partners, including Marketing, Sales, Market Access, and Clinical Operations. Provide scientific expertise and support for the development of training materials for commercial / marketing teams. Ensure all MSL activities are conducted with the highest degree of integrity and in full compliance with all relevant company policy, SOPs, local laws, and industry best practice. Review and approve MSL plans, materials, and reports for scientific accuracy and compliance. Manage the MSL team budget, ensuring responsible and efficient use of financial resources. Qualifications & Experience
Required : Advanced scientific or clinical degree : PharmD or MD is required. A minimum of 4+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. A minimum of 2+ years of direct experience as a Medical Science Liaison (MSL). Direct experience in people management (1-2 years as an MSL / Medical manager). In-depth knowledge of CNS, Psychiatry, Respiratory, and Anasthesia therapeutic areas. Proven experience in a leadership, mentorship, or coaching capacity. Thorough understanding of the local healthcare system, regulatory environment, and compliance codes in Saudi Arabia. Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Preferred : In-depth knowledge and experience in oncology / immunology therapy area. Experience with new product launches. Established network of KOL relationships in relevant therapy areas within Saudi Arabia and MENA. Seniority level
