Technical Design Engineer - Low Voltage Panels

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Technical Design Engineer with 3 to 8 years of proven experience in the design and engineering of Low Voltage (LV) electrical panel boards and systems. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating client requirements and project specifications into robust, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs, ensuring technical excellence from concept through to commissioning support. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, relevant industry standards, and proficiency in design software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Documentation : Develop detailed electrical designs for LV panel boards including MDBs, SMDBs, MCCs, DBs, ATS panels, PFC panels, Synchronization panels, and Control Panels.
  • Documentation : Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation including SLDs, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel layout drawings, and BOM.
  • Standards & Compliance : Ensure designs comply with project specifications, international standards (IEC 61439, IEC 60364 series), and local regulations (SASO, SEC).
  • Technical Analysis & Calculations : Perform load calculations, voltage drop, short-circuit current analysis, and protection device coordination studies.
  • Component Sizing : Determine optimal busbar sizing, cable sizing, and component ratings.
  • Component Selection & Specification : Select electrical components (e.g., circuit breakers, contactors, relays, meters, CTs, VTs, PLCs, VFDs) and prepare technical specifications and data sheets for procurement.
  • Collaboration : Work with Sales / Estimation during bidding to provide technical solutions and cost-effective designs; coordinate with Project Management to align with timelines; liaise with Production / Fabrication for manufacturability and technical support during assembly; collaborate with clients, consultants, and inspectors for reviews and approvals.
  • Quality Assurance & Improvement : Participate in internal design reviews; assist in FAT, SAT, and commissioning troubleshooting; contribute to continuous improvement of design processes, tools, and standards.
  • Technical Support : Provide clarifications and support to sales, project, production, and site teams; prepare technical submittals and O&M manuals.

Qualifications

  • Education : Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Experience : Minimum of 3 to 8 years of progressive experience in electrical design, specifically within LV switchgear, control panels, or power distribution systems in manufacturing or engineering.
  • Technical Skills : Proficiency in electrical CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical); experience with electrical calculation software (ETAP, Ecodial, Amtech) is a strong plus.
  • Standards & Codes : In-depth knowledge of IEC, UL, NEMA; familiarity with SASO, SEC local codes.
  • Design Understanding : Strong understanding of power distribution, protective relaying, and control circuit design; familiarity with LV components from reputable manufacturers; ability to read and prepare complex electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Soft Skills : Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities; strong written and verbal communication in English (Arabic a plus); detail-oriented; able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; strong teamwork.

    • Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership in the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE).
  • Experience with PLC programming or SCADA integration.
  • Knowledge of automation and industrial control systems.
  • Previous experience in a panel builder factory environment.
