Overview
Director Assurance and Audit - Material (SDU4) role focused on translating strategic quality objectives into operational plans and leading assurance and audit activities across Development Business Units and Asset Delivery Teams with a specialized focus on materials. Responsible for the effective implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS), audit readiness, and compliance with quality standards. Leads stage gate reviews, monitors performance metrics, drives continuous improvement, and collaborates with senior leadership, Development Business Units, and Asset Delivery Teams to mitigate quality risks and ensure best practices are applied across projects.
Responsibilities
- Translate strategic goals into operational plans for Assurance and Audit across business units
- Oversee execution of the Assurance and Audit strategy within assigned domains
- Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for construction materials, providing technical guidance on specifications, testing, and compliance
- Lead cross-functional coordination to ensure quality integration in development and delivery
- Supervise audit planning, execution, and follow-up activities
- Ensure stage gate reviews are conducted with full compliance and documentation
- Validate procurement quality requirements and ensure consistent application across projects
- Monitor contractor and consultant adherence to design quality assurance processes
- Ensure QMS implementation across development teams and business units
- Support internal and external audit readiness and response coordination
- Promote a culture of quality ownership and continuous improvement
- Represent the Assurance and Audit function in operational leadership forums
- Ensure quality resources and consultants are allocated effectively to projects
- Track and report on quality KPIs and performance metrics
- Drive adoption of quality best practices across teams and projects
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Engage with external stakeholders to align quality expectations and deliverables
Requirements
BSc in Engineering, Quality Management or similar degree (i.e. UK Level 6)Chartered Quality Professional CQP MCQI or similarCertified ISO 9001 Quality Management System Lead AuditorOver 12 years of leadership experience in the Construction Industry on mega or giga projectsStrong knowledge of construction materials, testing standards (ASTM, BS, ACI), and specificationsSeniority level
