Head of Power & Utilities to drive the planning and enablement of power infrastructure for AI data centre sites by securing grid access, coordinating with energy providers, and ensuring scalable, redundant, and cost-efficient power & utilities delivery in order to support timely energisation and long-term capacity alignment.
Overview
HUMAIN is seeking a Head of Power & Utilities to lead the Power & Utilities function, ensuring reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient power delivery for AI data centre deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- People Management : Manage the achievement of objectives by setting individual objectives, managing performance, developing staff, and providing formal and informal feedback to maximize overall performance and engagement.
- Day-to-Day Operations : Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Power & Utilities department to ensure efficiency, compliance, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Grid Planning & Enablement : Secure power supply agreements for prioritised sites by coordinating with national utilities and energy providers to ensure timely and scalable grid connectivity.
- Grid Planning & Enablement : Develop long-term power enablement plans by forecasting energy requirements and aligning them with deployment timelines and phased estate expansion.
- Grid Planning & Enablement : Coordinate with Engineering and Deployment teams to ensure that power infrastructure availability is synchronised with site readiness milestones.
- Interconnection Design : Manage the planning and approval of interconnection infrastructure by overseeing routing design, substation permitting, and transmission line approval to support grid integration.
- Interconnection Design : Track the delivery of both off-site and on-site electrical works by monitoring permitting, construction, and commissioning progress to avoid delays in energisation.
- Reliability Standards : Define power infrastructure reliability requirements including N+1 and 2N designs by reviewing load projections and failure scenarios to ensure system resilience and SLA compliance.
- Reliability Standards : Evaluate alternative configurations and design optimisations by balancing delivery cost, scalability, and service reliability to ensure investment efficiency and future adaptability.
- Water & Wastewater Coordination : Secure water and sewage service agreements by engaging with public and private providers to ensure provisioning is aligned with development schedules.
- Water & Wastewater Coordination : Coordinate utility infrastructure planning by mapping inlets, outlets, and treatment requirements in alignment with zoning codes and environmental impact considerations.
- Water & Wastewater Coordination : Ensure system capacity and redundancy by validating flow rates, connection configurations, and pressure controls to meet operational demand and safety thresholds.
- Waste Management & Ancillary Utilities : Coordinate waste and stormwater utility integration by reviewing site needs, routing logistics, and treatment access to ensure proper infrastructure fit and regulatory alignment.
- Waste Management & Ancillary Utilities : Support planning for other critical utilities such as gas, compressed air, or backup service lines where applicable to ensure complete site readiness.
- Sustainability & Cost Management : Provide input on renewable energy integration by coordinating with the Sustainability function and evaluating site feasibility for clean energy sourcing.
- Sustainability & Cost Management : Optimise power delivery costs by reviewing tariff structures, usage forecasts, and investment trade-offs during early-stage planning.
- Compliance & Readiness Tracking : Ensure all power systems meet national grid regulations, utility standards, and internal design criteria by enforcing compliance reviews and audit processes.
- Compliance & Readiness Tracking : Maintain documentation on power readiness status and report energisation risks to leadership and cross-functional teams to support coordinated deployment decisions.
- Safety, Quality & Environment : Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, quality, and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the section to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude.
- Safety, Quality & Environment : Motivate one’s own team and identify opportunities to take part in change initiatives, programs, and projects to reflect international best practices and competitive industry advancements.
- Safety, Quality & Environment : Recommend improvements to departmental policy and direct the implementation of procedures and controls covering all areas of the Power & Utilities department activity to ensure efficiency, compliance, and service quality.
- MIS & Reports : Prepare MIS statements and reports pertaining to the Power & Utilities department timely and accurately to support business decision-making and reporting requirements.
- Related Assignments : Perform other related duties or assignments as directed to support business objectives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field from a reputable institution.A master’s degree and / or higher is preferred.10+ years in grid connection, power infrastructure planning, or industrial energy projects.Strong understanding of utility coordination, interconnection permitting, and energy enablement planning for large-scale developments.Experience in designing and reviewing redundant power infrastructure (e.g. N+1, 2N) and energy cost modelling.Familiarity with national electricity codes, sustainability integration, and site-level energy forecasting for multi-phase estates.Seniority level
