Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Humanitarian Team Leader, the Humanitarian WASH Advisor / Engineer will provide strategic and technical leadership for WASH interventions in humanitarian settings. The role includes implementing emergency WASH programs, supporting proposal development, and ensuring alignment with global standards (e.g., SPHERE, WHO, UNICEF). The advisor will monitor and evaluate WASH activities, coordinate with other projects, and represent Mercy Corps in WASH forums at the national level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implementation, and monitoring of emergency WASH responses.
  • Provide technical guidance and develop standards for WASH activities.
  • Prepare design documents, conduct technical assessments, and oversee procurement processes.
  • Ensure climate-resilient and sustainable WASH solutions.
  • Monitor project progress, ensure compliance with standards, and document lessons learned.
  • Support capacity building of staff and partners, and represent Mercy Corps in coordination forums.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Hydraulic or Water Resources Engineering or related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience in WASH, including 5+ in humanitarian contexts.
  • Proven expertise in designing and managing WASH infrastructure in crisis settings.
  • Knowledge of solar water systems, sanitation technologies, and international standards.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English.
