We are seeking a skilled and safety-oriented Aromatics Plant Operator to join our operations team. This role involves monitoring and controlling the production of aromatic hydrocarbons—primarily benzene, toluene, and xylenes (BTX)—used in various downstream applications, including chemical drilling fluids and additives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in plant operations, a strong understanding of chemical processes, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency. Overview
Responsibilities
Operate and monitor equipment in the BTX production and recovery units, including distillation columns, heat exchangers, and reactors. Control process variables (temperature, pressure, flow rates) to maintain product quality and throughput. Work from the control room (DCS / PLC systems) and in the field to ensure smooth operation of the plant. Perform routine inspections, equipment checks, and adjustments to maintain operational integrity. Collect and test samples to monitor the composition and purity of aromatic compounds used in oilfield chemicals. Maintain accurate logs of operating data, alarms, process deviations, and shift handovers. Respond to equipment malfunctions, process upsets, or emergency situations per safety protocols. Ensure compliance with HSE standards, particularly in handling flammable and toxic materials. Assist in plant start-ups, shutdowns, maintenance activities, and changeovers. Communicate with production supervisors, engineers, and quality control teams to ensure product specifications are met. Qualifications
Diploma / ITI or Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, or a related field. Minimum 10 years of experience in petrochemical or refinery plant operations, preferably in aromatic or solvent production. Proficient in operating BTX units, distillation systems, and utility equipment. Familiar with chemical safety standards, MSDS handling, and PPE usage. Working knowledge of control systems (DCS / PLC) and basic instrumentation. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Willingness to work in rotational shifts and physically demanding environments. Preferred Experience
Experience in the chemical drilling industry, especially in the production of aromatic-based solvents, additives, or intermediates. Exposure to catalytic reforming, extraction units, or steam cracking by-products. Seniority level
