We are looking to contract with a sole trader at Principal technical consultant level with experience in waste infrastructure and processing technologies, to service our expanding client list within the Middle East. The role may involve a broad range of projects involving waste treatment technologies such as Thermal Treatment, Anaerobic Digestion, Material Recovery Facilities (MRF), Composting, and others. The role would be based in-region for a minimum four-month period with potential extension by mutual agreement. Key Responsibilities

Lead / input to the provision of technical advice relating to waste treatment processes and technologies. Manage projects and liaise with clients in the Middle East, UK, and other territories. Review process and engineering documents such as P&IDs, PFDs, equipment schedules, design specifications, mass / energy balances, and other technical documents. Produce feasibility and scoping studies to assist clients in making financial investment decisions. Produce basis of design documentation and technical specifications. Review facilities and technologies and assess compliance with health and safety requirements, legislative requirements, best practice, user requirements, cost budgets, and time scales. Manage the work of other junior engineers and coach / mentor more junior staff. Ensure cross-discipline collaboration with other consultants and engineers, within Ricardo and with external clients and contractors. Lead and manage internal teams in the production of bids, tenders, and project work. Perform due diligence on waste infrastructure, including site assessments, process optimisation, commissioning, and performance testing. Develop preliminary / concept designs for waste infrastructure projects. FEED development experience is advantageous. Work as part of an Owners Engineer or Lenders Advisor team on waste infrastructure. Essential - Key Competencies and Experience

Degree-qualified engineer with broad technical capabilities in process, mechanical, electrical, or other engineering fields. Willingness to travel for project delivery, including within the Middle East. Good knowledge of waste treatment processes and technologies, ideally with hands-on experience. Up-to-date knowledge of waste industry developments, legislation, and best practice. Excellent report writing skills. Ability to mentor and support the development of junior engineers. Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to deliver high-standard consultancy to clients. Ability to communicate concise and accurate technical information in written and verbal form. Willingness to travel regionally and internationally as required for projects and business development. Desirable

Experience implementing engineering projects, preferably in the waste treatment sector. Working knowledge of thermal, biological, chemical, and mechanical treatment technologies. Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership. Previous consultancy experience. Good commercial acumen with experience of different forms of contract. Skills and Behaviours
