The General Medicines Business unit is one of three Sanofi’s BUs. It is the largest one, employing over 15,500 people worldwide, with broad geographical footprint spanning most of the countries.

GBU Medical teams are primarily focused on Autoimmune Type 1 Diabetes and Transplant as core innovative areas, while continuing to support efforts on improving the day-to-day health of patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

The GBU is continuously evolving to :

Launching transformative therapies in the areas of autoimmune T1D and Transplant.

Coupling technology with clinical expertise to better understand patient needs, empowering them to manage chronic conditions.

Rebuilding pipeline through internal and external innovation

Boosting omnichannel strategy for customers and patients, using data and Artificial Intelligence to personalize the engagements.

Growing core assets and increasing their reach with new digital health business models

About the job

The Greater Gulf is a multi country organisation that consists of the 6 following countries : Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrein. As Greater Gulf Medical Head, you are part of the Key Markets Medical Leadership Team as well as Greater Gulf Leadership Team, and you will shape the Medical Organization (MCO) medical strategy & operational medical plans for an exciting & innovative portfolio, in alignment with the global and local strategy.

You will be responsible to accelerate medical capabilities according to the current and future needs of the company and the market, and to achieve medical leadership and competitive advantage in Greater Gulf, and thus to realize our vision : to improve public health by finding healthcare solutions for patients and through the appropriate and effective use of both our innovations and established products, within the highest ethical and compliance standards, by contributing actively to drive our R&D driven, AI empowered ambition in digital healthcare and Real-World Evidence generation.

Main responsibilities

  • Lead in the region medical strategy, planning and resourcing for successful launch of transformative therapies in autoimmune T1D and Transplant areas
  • Build scientific ecosystem in Greater Gulf embracing transformative therapies and partnerships with key opinion leaders, external experts, health technology assessment bodies and health regulatory authorities; maintain and reinforce Sanofi's strategic and scientific position
  • Provide strategic leadership for the medical function in Greater Gulf and partner with the business to co-create a coherent strategic action plan with scientific rigor and patient outcomes
  • Leverage Real World data and deploy AI and digital enablers to generate evidence and insights, enabling data-driven decision making and improved medical affairs decisions and operational efficiency
  • Ensure optimal lifecycle management for growth products and legacy portfolio in partnership with relevant functional counterparts
  • Develop a compelling vision for Medical Affairs in Greater Gulf aligned with global medical strategy and the company’s Glocal model
  • Lead optimization and execution of Greater Gulf medical plans that maximize product value; enable cross-functional partnerships across medical and non-medical functions to build integrated plans including data generation
  • Lead transformations and develop high performing teams and talent pipeline; foster agile ways of working with a customer-first mindset and collaboration with global Go To Market capabilities
  • Manage country medical budget; identify synergies and allocate resources for medical initiatives at General Medicines and cross-BU level

About you

Education

Advanced scientific background : i.e. Medical Degree, PhD, PharmD (MD highly preferred).

Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 10 years of job-related experience
  • Strong track record in developing and executing a medical strategy and leading a sizable medical affairs function
  • Demonstrated track record of building and maintaining a KOL network, ideally in Greater Gulf
  • Product launch experience
  • Experience in working across and building effective partnerships among R&D, Commercial, Medical, Safety, and Regulatory
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare landscape
  • Experience in deploying digital enablers in Medical Affairs
  • Significant leadership experience, people management and proven ability to partner with and impact key stakeholders
