Job Summary
The POS Test Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, including contact, contactless, and digital payment solutions. This role involves executing functional, integration, and compliance tests, validating EMV and ISO 8583 message flows, and collaborating closely with development, product, and QA teams. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of EMV chip card technology, NFC, tokenization, and backend authorization flows, with hands-on experience in transaction log analysis and defect reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Testing & Validation
- Plan, design, and execute test cases for POS systems, covering contact, contactless, and digital wallet transactions (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay).
- Perform functional, integration, regression, and UAT testing for POS terminals and ECR integrations.
- Validate ISO 8583 message formats, EMV data elements, and transaction lifecycle flows.
- Conduct EMV L1 / L2 and brand certification testing using UL Brand Test Tool, FIIME, or equivalent tools.
- Test tokenized transactions and validate PCI compliance requirements.
- Debugging & Analysis
- Analyze transaction traces, EMV kernel logs, and host response messages to identify and resolve issues.
- Perform APDU command-level analysis and backend data verification using SQL.
- Work with switch simulators and authorization systems to replicate and troubleshoot issues.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Create and maintain test plans, test scenarios, and execution reports.
- Log, track, and manage defects using tools like JIRA, TestRail, or HP ALM.
- Provide detailed feedback and insights to development and product teams.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (development, business, compliance) to ensure timely delivery of quality releases.
- Support continuous improvement of testing processes and automation opportunities where applicable.
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).3+ years of hands-on experience in POS testing, EMV certification, or payment systems QA.Strong knowledge of EMV standards (contact & contactless) and NFC / Smart Card technologies.Understanding of ISO 8583 message format, MTI, DEs, and bitmap analysis.Experience with digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay) and tokenization.Experience using EMV test tools (UL Brand Test Tool, FIIME, etc.).Proficiency in designing, reviewing, and executing manual test scripts.Familiarity with POS-ECR integration testing and backend transaction verification.Hands-on experience with defect management and test management tools (JIRA, TestRail, Confluence, HP ALM).Basic SQL knowledge for backend data verification.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform detailed transaction log analysis.Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
