Data Center Inventory & Deployment Specialist Position Summary
The Data Center Inventory & Deployment Specialist for High-Performance Computing (“HPC”), including Shaheen III supercomputer at the Scientific Computing Center (“SCC”) and other Data Centers at KAUST plays a crucial role in coordinating the deployment of data center equipment and ensuring the proper storage and inventory of materials and spares for the Shaheen III supercomputer. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate rack elevation drawings and overseeing the logistics of hardware deployment, ensuring that all equipment is correctly installed and operational.
Working within the SCC Data Center and other Data Centers hosting the HPC, including Shaheen III supercomputer, the Data Center Inventory & Deployment Specialist will manage inventory levels, track equipment status, and ensure that all materials are stored securely and efficiently. Additionally, this position requires collaboration with various teams to coordinate the arrival, installation, and configuration of new hardware, as well as the removal and approved disposal of outdated equipment following HPC, including Shaheen III protocol.
This position is vital for maintaining the operational efficiency and reliability of the HPC, including Shaheen III supercomputer. The role helps ensure that the data center operates smoothly and without interruption. The Data Center Inventory & Deployment Specialist will also be responsible for updating documentation and providing regular reports on inventory status and deployment progress. Strict adherence to security protocols and maintaining optimal environmental conditions within the data center are essential.
Major Responsibilities
Coordinate the deployment of data center equipment, including servers, storage devices, and networking hardware
Ensure proper storage and inventory of materials, spares, and consumables, including items subject to U.S. export controls
Maintain accurate rack elevation drawings and update them as necessary
Oversee logistics of hardware deployment, including shipping, receiving, and installation
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to ensure seamless hardware integration
Track equipment status and manage inventory levels to prevent shortages or overstock
Conduct regular audits of inventory and storage areas to ensure compliance with standards
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving hardware deployment issues
Provide training and support to staff on inventory management procedures
Prepare and present regular reports on inventory status and deployment progress

Expertise in maintaining documentation and generating reports
Providing training and support to staff on inventory procedures
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or Business) or Diploma in Electronics Engineering
Certification in data center management or related areas (e.g., CompTIA Server+, Data Center Management – CDCP, ITIL)
Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing Data Center inventory & deployment
Knowledge of inventory management systems and best practices
Understanding of data center operations and hardware deployment processesUnderstanding of IT asset management for controlled equipment
Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to data center operations
Familiarity with HPE / CRAY supercomputers and related technologies is a plus
