Overview
The British Embassy Riyadh has a vacancy for an Electrician under the Technical Works Group (TWG), job grade S1, on a fixed term contract of one (1) year. The jobholder will play a key role in delivering Estates services, providing day-to-day management of the Technical Works Group (TWG) and will work with the Technical Works Officer (TWO) to establish the TWG as a center of excellence serving a diverse staff base. The jobholder will manage day-to-day maintenance of estate-related assets to statutory requirements and oversee planned improvements. The jobholder will assist and support the TWO to deliver Estates services, with a particular focus on the large and expanding office and residential estate, to customers under the One HM Government (HMG) Service Level Agreement. The role is responsible for the operational delivery of maintenance services, including keeping maintenance records, organizing and prioritizing work for the skilled trades team, and assessing and improving customer satisfaction, acting on feedback on service delivery. The jobholder will work on the Embassy’s health, safety, and welfare standards for the benefit of all staff at the Embassy in a ‘zero harm’ culture. Duties and responsibilities : The Estate comprises an office building and a compound which includes leisure facilities (swimming pool, gym, tennis / football pitch, children’s play area). A major part of the estate is owned and the leased properties for UK Based staff and a representational Residence for the Ambassador. Electrical Installation, Testing, and Commissioning : Install, test, and commission electrical systems, wiring, and components, including cable trays, trunking, conduit systems, and related accessories. Coordinate with other trades to execute installation works according to project plans and safety standards. Preventive Planned Maintenance : Carry out scheduled preventive planned maintenance on electrical panels, lighting systems, power circuits, and control systems. Replace or repair faulty wiring, fixtures, circuit breakers, outlets, and electrical equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety. Troubleshooting and Emergency Response : Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate testing tools (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers), identify root causes, and perform repairs on systems and appliances including motors and water heaters. Respond to emergency breakdowns promptly to restore normal operation and minimize downtime. Compliance, Safety, and Risk Management : Ensure all work complies with H&S regulations and internal policies. Follow electrical safety procedures, including lock-out / tag-out protocols, wearing proper PPE, and conducting risk assessments before work begins. Take all necessary measures to eliminate or mitigate hazards in the work environment. Reporting, Documentation, and Coordination : Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and compliance logs. Prepare daily work reports and update job tracking systems. Coordinate closely with the supervisor and other team members to fulfil work orders and support ongoing projects. Inventory and Material Requests : Request required tools, materials, and spare parts in advance to ensure task readiness and avoid delays. Monitor material usage and report shortages or defects promptly. Additional Duties : Perform other duties assigned by management, supporting the broader technical or maintenance team when required. The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible as specific responsibilities could change in the future, and this would be at the discretion of the line manager or head of section. Essential qualifications, skills and experience
Technical certification or diploma in electrical systems Minimum 3-5 years of experience in electrical installation and maintenance systems. Experienced and ability to attend and rectify electrical faults and emergencies. Familiarity with electrical components, tools, and safety procedures. A thorough understanding of the electrical industry and code compliance. Knowledge of control systems. Efficient skills and knowledge in using electrical tools and testing equipment IT Literate. Ability to manage own time and workload. Valid Driving License – Saudi Arabia. Must hold a Diploma or Certification in electrical from a recognised technical or vocational institution. Proficient English language skills both oral and written. Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Troubleshooting and rectifying issues with white goods I.e. Washer / Dryers and Dish Washer. Experience working on low current. PAT Testing. Knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation related to buildings and estates. Arabic and Urdu language skills. Other information

Monthly salary details : Base Salary - SAR5,417.25 Housing Allowance - SAR1,354.32 (subject to eligibility) Travel Allowance - SAR 500.00 (subject to eligibility) Total - SAR 7,271.60 Allowances are not payable to staff who receive official provision for such expenditure in some other form. This position is for a fixed term contract for one (1) year. The British Embassy Riyadh employs Country Based Staff in line with Saudi Labour Law. Contracts for full time positions are renewable at the end of the term. This position is full-time, based on 48 hours per week. The jobholder will be required to be flexible as work hours will be dictated by operational needs and will involve working outside of normal office hours (evening / weekend), including public holidays. Normal working hours for the Embassy are from 08 : 00 to 15 : 00 from Sunday to Thursday, with core working hours from 10 : 00-15 : 00. Core working hours is the period of the day that employees are required to be at work. The working day outside of the core hours is a flexible period, which allows employees to choose when they work, subject to operational needs. The jobholder will be required to be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evening and weekend), including at public holidays. Flexible working arrangements may be considered based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-day probationary period. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their iqama under the Embassy's sponsorship.
